On 3rd December, 1914, the 1st Wiltshire battalion of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division were relieved by French troops from trenches at Ypres and moved back to billets in Westoutre. Records, including those of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, show that Clifford Learner was killed on 5th December, 1914, when the battalion was out of the firing line, which suggests that they have either got the date wrong or he was attached to another unit at the time. |
